Director of Watershed Resilience and Strategic Projects

Position Summary
Pronatura México is one of Mexico's leading environmental organizations, dedicated to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, and nature-based solutions that strengthen both ecosystems and communities.
As Pronatura enters a new strategic planning cycle (2027–2032), the organization is seeking an exceptional leader to oversee the development, implementation, and scaling of high-impact projects focused on watershed resilience, climate adaptation, and climate risk mitigation.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams, collaborating across areas, strengthening project execution, developing a robust pipeline of opportunities, fostering strategic partnerships, and ensuring that projects deliver measurable environmental and social impact.
Strategic Leadership
● Lead the development and implementation of Pronatura's Watershed Resilience Strategy, working collaboratively across the organization to design and deliver integrated projects that advance climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, water resilience, and nature-based solutions.
● Support design and implementation of the 2027–2032 Strategic Plan.
● Identify opportunities to scale impact through partnerships and innovation.
● Promote accountability, measurable outcomes, and continuous improvement.
Project Portfolio Management
● Oversee a portfolio of complex, multi-year projects.
● Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with measurable impact.
● Implement governance, monitoring, and risk-management systems.
● Ensure donor compliance and reporting excellence.
Pipeline Development and Business Growth
● Build and manage a strong project pipeline.
● Identify funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.
● Support proposal development and fundraising efforts.
● Maintain relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, and donors.
Team Leadership and Organizational Development
● Lead and develop high-performing teams.
● Create a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
● Establish clear goals and performance expectations.
● Support professional development and talent retention.
Process Improvement and Technology
● Strengthen project management systems and workflows.
● Promote effective use of ERP, CRM, and project management platforms.
● Drive operational efficiency through process improvement.
● Support data-driven decision making.
Technical Leadership
● Provide strategic oversight of integrated watershed resilience initiatives, ensuring that projects contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, water resilience, ecosystem restoration, sustainable landscape management, and the application of nature-based solutions.
● Ensure technical rigor through collaboration with specialists and partners.
● Represent Pronatura in relevant stakeholder and policy forums.
Qualifications
Required:
● Master's degree in a relevant field.
● Minimum 10 years of leadership experience.
● Proven experience managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
● Experience with pipeline development, partnerships, and fundraising.
● Experience with ERP, CRM, project management, and performance systems.
● Fluency in English and Spanish.
Preferred:
● Environmental, water, climate, sustainability, or conservation sector experience.
● Knowledge of watershed management and nature-based solutions.
● PMP, Agile, PRINCE2, or equivalent certifications.
